Saturday is a big day in Waco, as you can attend not one but two STEM-related events. First, the Mayborn Museum hosts STEMfest Community Day, where kids and their parents can explore a wide range of science-related activities. And on Saturday evening, STEMfest Community Stroll invites participants to visit downtown businesses to see how STEM subjects directly impact what they do.
Also on Saturday, the Waco Civic Theatre presents the Cinderella Tea Party. Ahead of next week’s performances of Cinderella, kids can meet Cinderella, the Prince, and a whole host of their friends.
Finally, on Saturday night the Melinda Adams Trio plays at Camp Fimfo’s grand opening. Nestled along the Bosque River, Waco’s newest campground offers activities for the whole family, proving that “fun is more fun outside.”
Other events of note:
The latest installment of Waco Brew Theology explores American Buddhism on Thursday night at Bare Arms Brewing. As always, you can expect a lively discussion because, after all, what could go wrong with mixing alcohol and religion?
On Saturday, the Waco Axe Company hosts a hatchet marathon league, where participants throw 28 games followed by a double-elimination tournament in one day. Plus, between games, you can watch the World Axe Throwing League US Open in Minneapolis on ESPN.
Next Wednesday brings the Central Texas Jazz Society’s monthly jazz jam to Stay Classy Waco. Whether you play and want to show off your chops or are just a jazz aficionado, see the best talent from Waco and the surrounding area.

Eat, Drink, Repeat: “Jaja Chen and Devin Li from Cha Community”
Who doesn't love the dumplings and tea at Cha Community, right? But there's more going on there than delicious menu options because co-owners Devin Li and Jaja Chen are working to build an inclusive, welcoming environment for customers and employees alike. Host Angelica Mazé takes a deep dive into the path that led them to Waco and their future plans for Cha Community.

“Maricopa County Blues” by Frenchie’s Blues Destroyers
If you like wild and woolly music, don’t miss Frenchie’s Blues Destroyers at The Crying Shame on Friday night. We’re not talking about some slicked-up, radio-friendly songs with a hint of the blues; instead, you’ll be treated to some loud, raw guitar accompanied by a rhythm section pounding its way through lowdown laments 12 bars at a time. Plus, Carter Falco, Towne Adams, and Jonna Mae round out the bill.

“God of Carnage: Another Twist from Silent House”
Four people sit on stage, divided between two couches. They are two couples meeting for the first time to discuss a playground altercation that took place between their sons. The audience will remain with them in the apartment for the next hour and a half: one act with no asides, no scene changes, no breaks, but lots of liquor and chaos. Jonathan Kinder examines Silent House Theatre’s production of God of Carnage, which takes the group in yet another unexpected direction.

“Helberg Barbecue Is Ready for Prime Time”
Do you like marbled pork brimming with juices, freshly-made pickles, creamy street corn packed with cilantro, and a hefty dose of black pepper crusting on your brisket and ribs? Then, as food writer Angelica Mazé discovered, Helberg Barbecue is just the right spot for you.
