2022 marks the second year Juneteenth has been a federal holiday, and multiple events to celebrate it are going on around Waco. On Friday night, the Mr. and Miss Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant is at Waco Hall, the Juneteenth Community Parade begins at 10 am on Saturday morning at Heritage Square, and on Saturday afternoon on into the evening, the Juneteenth Family Fun Day, featuring a performance by Tony! Toni! Toné!, is at Brazos Park East.
On Saturday night, Cedryl Ballou and The Zydeco Trendsetters are the latest act to headline the Texas Music Cafe at Nexus Esports. Ballou is the grandson of legendary performer Classie Ballou, who played guitar on “Paper In My Shoe,” the first zydeco radio hit in 1954. And who knows… maybe Classie will sit in for a song or two.
Father’s Day is Sunday, so consider treating your dad to Pivovar’s biergarten brunch. Or, he can also get into Hawaiian Falls for free all weekend with another paid admission or with a season pass holder.
Other events of note include:
The Lifespan of a Fact explores the difference between facts and the truth with performances Thursday through Saturday at Baylor's Theatre 11 in the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center.
Country music legend Ronnie Milsap plays the Waco Hippodrome Theatre on Friday night.
Shake it up at the Out and Proud Dance at the Central Presbyterian Church on Saturday night.

They’re opening for Cedryl Ballou and The Zydeco Trendsetters at the Texas Music Cafe on Saturday night, so get a taste of what you can expect with “Funky By Dark,” recorded earlier for TMC. And while the band dropped a live EP in 2021, more music is coming later this year.
