While Waco has plenty going on every weekend, the don’t-miss event on Saturday and Sunday is Chalk Waco. Over the course of four blocks on Austin Avenue, you can see a wide variety of street art, hear live music, shop at four different markets, and eat at multiple food trucks. Plus, Saturday night features Every Color Is Beautiful, a fashion show at the 7th Street Plaza.
For fans of musicals, this weekend is your last chance to see The Music Man at the Waco Civic Theatre. The story of con man Harold Hill’s redemption, thanks to the love of a good Midwestern woman, is a perennial favorite and provides entertainment for the whole family.
Waco has several different weekly open mic nights, but Towne Tuesday is definitely one you shouldn’t miss. Hosted by local troubadour Towne Adams at the Crying Shame, each week is a who’s who of the best musicians in Central Texas.
Other events to consider:
On Friday night, the American Association of Zoo Keepers hosts the Drink Beer, Save Turtles benefit at Brotherwell Brewing.
A Study in Scarlet Women by Sherry Thomas is the featured title at this month’s meeting of the Waco-McLennan County Library’s Mystery Book Club on Saturday at the South Waco Library.
For jazz lovers, the Central Texas Jazz Society’s monthly jazz jam is next Wednesday at Stay Classy Waco.

“Northeast Texas Women” by Willis Alan Ramsey
Willis Alan Ramsey may have only released one album, his 1972 self-titled debut, but he’s earned the reputation as a songwriter’s songwriter. Everyone from Eric Clapton to Waylon Jennings to Captain & Tennille have covered his songs while fans wait for a new release. (Ramsey’s response? “What's wrong with the first one?”) Local music lovers are in for a treat when he plays Texas Music Cafe on Saturday night with Jonna Mae and Robert Cline Jr opening.

“Chalk Waco Brings Local Art to Downtown Waco”
Chalk Waco offers plenty of art, food, fashion, and shopping this weekend… and is more important than ever. As Creative Waco’s Kennedy Sam explains: “Throughout the pandemic, outside markets were the only way small businesses could interact with each other and the community. Chalk Waco continues to provide a way for us to rebuild that community, and we are really glad to have all of the other markets participating and braiding together different parts of our community.”
