If you’re from Texas or have lived here for any amount of time, you know that Cinco de Mayo is a big deal. Multiple events are going on around town Thursday night — everything from Stephany Chavira’s all-Spanish show at Hemingway’s Watering Hole to DJ Peligro at Coach Hurt’s Crossroads — but you’ll have to keep a close eye on the weather for those that are happening outdoors.
Waco’s Whitney du Menil is the latest artist to be featured at Cultivate7twelve. You have two chances to catch her new Pop Art–inspired exhibition this weekend: on Friday night at Cultivate’s First Friday Market and again on Saturday evening for her opening reception. Plus, on Saturday night Hannah Rose will also perform.
If you’re looking for something to do on Mother’s Day, look no further than Western Belle Farm’s inaugural Sunflower Festival in West. Take the whole family to enjoy over 15 activities, including beeline mini ziplines, a cattle drive barrel train, farm animals, slides, sunflower photo ops, and much more.
Other things to consider include:
Again, weather permitting, Freight Bar’s Battle of the Bands concludes on Thursday night with performances by finalists Suede, Deceived by The Fallen, and Jamie’s Guns.
Say it ain’t so, but Friday night could be the last performance by local indie-rock band Sack Lunch! at Pinewood Coffee Bar.
Tuesday night brings the latest installment of Books & Brews, the Waco-McLennan County Public Library’s traveling book club. Head over to the Waco Ale Co. at 6:30 pm to discuss The Revolution According to Raymundo Mata by Gina Apostol.
