Jimmy Vaughan first came to national prominence playing guitar for The Fabulous Thunderbirds on ‘80s hits such as “Tuff Enuff” and “Wrap It Up.” And while he may be even better known for being late blues guitar hero Stevie Ray Vaughan’s older brother, he’s carved out his own distinctive career. It’s been years since he’s played in Waco, so catch him while you can at Heritage Square in downtown Waco on Friday night at this year’s inaugural Brazos Nights concert.
On Saturday afternoon, Southern Roots Brewing Co. hosts the Gears & Beers Spring Showdown car show. In addition to some sweet rides, there’ll be a crawfish boil, live music, and fun for the whole family. And, of course, plenty of Southern Roots craft beer too!
If you’re in a more contemplative move, consider attending the five-week series of discussions about Southern writer Flannery O’Connor’s short stories, hosted by St. Alban’s. Beginning on Monday, Dr. Rachel Toombs will guide readers through Southern Gothic classics such as “Good Country People” and “A Good Man is Hard to Find.”
Other events of note include:
If you love classic ‘70s hard rock, don’t miss the Led Zeppelin tribute on Friday night at The Backyard.
The Heart of Texas Storytelling Guild has its annual storytelling event, Porch Tales, at the Good Neighbor House on Saturday afternoon.
Hemingway’s Watering Hole continues its Monday Funday series of rotating musicians and food trucks with Stephany Chavira and Burgertology.

“Clay Pot: Vietnamese Cooking with Western Twists”
If you haven't eaten at the Clay Pot, you've definitely missed out on a Waco institution. But as Waco Insider food writer Angelica Mazé explains, there’s more to it than that because owner Thanh Le's menu is a love letter to her Northern Vietnamese culinary traditions and an expression of her life as a Vietnamese American.
