Waco Insider #103
Waco Family & Faith International Film Festival, Cross Forging Workshop, and Likely Stories
The annual Waco Family & Faith International Film Festival returns with a full slate of movies and other activities. While this week’s weather caused some postponements and schedule shuffling, take a look at the updated schedule to see all your options at venues across Waco, including Art Center Waco, the Waco Hippodrome Theatre, and Regal Cinemas-Hollywood Theaters. So get your tickets now before they sell out.
If you’re sick of the cold weather, MAKER’s EDGE makerspace is bringing the heat on Saturday afternoon with a cross forging workshop. Learn the ways of the forge and create a Blacksmith's Cross under the instruction of Forged in Fire contestant and Apprentice Bladesmith Mark Smith, owner of Mark Smith Knives.
The class has a limited size, so register online now.
If you listen to KWBU, Waco’s National Public Radio (NPR) station, you’re probably familiar with Likely Stories, Jim McKeown’s weekly show about books. Jim and his wife Ramona are two of the nicest bibliophiles you’ll ever meet, and his love of books and reading is evident in each week’s segment, which covers titles from authors such as Mary Oliver, Ron Carlson, Isabel Allende, and a whole lot more.
All good things must come to an end, however, as Jim is stepping away from the mic. Next Tuesday, KWBU celebrates his contributions with a retirement reception and open house at the station’s community room, starting at 11 am.
