Magen King & Donna Lee: Not Our First Rodeo, Romeo & Juliet, Hispanic Leaders' Network: Meet the Candidates
Magen King and Donna Lee roll into The Performing Arts Community Center on Friday night with Not Our First Rodeo, a stand-up double-header powered by lived-in chaos and zero patience for polite silence. They’ve got the kind of jokes that only come from surviving middle age, parenting, bad decisions, and the long, weird afterparty of adulthood—and they’re not sanding off the sharp edges for anybody.
If you’ve ever looked at your own life and thought, “Well, that escalated,” this is your chance to laugh hard and feel gloriously understood.
Silent House Theatre Co. closes out its production of Romeo & Juliet at the historic Cooper House on Sunday, turning Shakespeare’s blood feud into an intimate night of young love sprinting toward catastrophe.
Start the evening at 6 pm with a catered Italian dinner by local chef Trey Cooper, and enjoy the rare pleasure of lingering inside one of Waco’s most beautiful homes before the lights dim at 7:30 pm. Then let Verona unfold at close range, where vendettas are personal, desire feels reckless, and the question isn’t whether love survives—but how much it’s willing to risk.
All politics are local, and on Tuesday night at KWTX the stakes shrink down to the size that actually shapes your day-to-day life—district clerk, justice of the peace, district judge, and county commissioner. The Hispanic Leaders’ Network is hosting a straight-up chance to hear these candidates answer questions in the same room, under the same lights, with nowhere to hide behind yard signs or mailers.
Care about how McLennan County works? This is where you show up, listen closely, and decide who you want to hold down the fort when the cameras are off.
If These Walls Could Talk
A visit to a new concert poster exhibition at Art Center Waco becomes a starting point for thinking about what happens when things outlive their expiration dates. From disposable event listings to monthly music calendars for sale on eBay years later, objects designed to disappear sometimes endure.
What emerges in the latest episode of Your Waco Weekend is a reflection on risk and how culture once located itself in time and place before a note was ever played.
