The Waco Insider #31
Waco Walks, Seven Short Films About (Our) Marriage, and What's Cooking in Clifton
On Saturday morning, local author Jerry Powell is this month’s Waco Walks guide. He’ll transport you back to 1890s Waco — when houses of ill repute were within a stone’s throw of Baylor University — as you visit sites from his recently published book, The Sporting House Killing: A Gilded Age Thriller.
On Saturday, you can watch Seven Short Films About (Our) Marriage for free outside at Brotherwell Brewing. The movie was a standout entry in the 2020 Deep in the Heart Film Festival, and Chris Hansen, its director and a Baylor film professor, will be on hand afterward to answer audience questions. Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, head to Olaf’s Restaurant in Clifton on Monday night to learn some fine dining recipes from longtime Waco chef Elizabeth Pannabecker.
In our Now Hear — and Read — This! section following this week’s event listings:
Listen to “Amanda” by Sundae Drivers, our latest song of the week.
Learn about Russell Campbell, local mixed media and abstract artist.
Dig into recipes for pancakes and ravioli that use different varieties of pears.
