Waco has more going on than ever thanks to the Downtown Waco Public Improvement District’s “Summer of Downtown” initiatives, and that includes the new, temporary 7th Street Plaza between Austin and Franklin avenues. If you’ve driven by there lately, you may have seen someone giving a lecture, an impromptu open mic night, or a yoga class.
This Thursday night, the Waco Civic Theatre hosts a free concert at the 7th Street Plaza featuring country singer Holly Tucker and other performers. And for those so inclined, the McLennan County Public Health District’s Mobile Vaccination Unit will be on hand too.
If you like traditional country music — and by that we mean Ernest Tubb, Ray Price, and Buck Owens — then don’t miss Dale Watson at Papa Joe’s Texas Saloon on Sunday afternoon. Without a doubt, he’ll be singing “Where Do You Want It,” the story of how Waco’s own country music outlaw Billy Joe Shaver brought a gun to a knife fight at Papa Joe’s.
In our recommended reads and podcasts section, learn about the plans to revitalize Waco Lions Park, which has provided family fun for decades. Plus, get the details on how to watch online most of the movies screened last weekend at the Deep in the Heart Film Festival. Finally, even if you’re not a comic book fan, you’ll get a kick out of listening to three guys who are: the co-hosts of The Longbox, a new local podcast.
