Performing Arts Community Center Grand Opening, Shanidar, and Books & Brews: The Prophet and the Idiot
The Performing Arts Community Center (PACC) is the latest cultural arts player in downtown Waco, and you can check it out for yourself on Friday night at its grand opening starting at 6 pm.
Enjoy guided tours, event previews, and a special performance by Silent House Theatre Company, along with food and drinks. With a full schedule of classes, performances, and workshops, upcoming offerings include Rogue Music showcases, a karaoke tournament, and live podcast tapings.
As usual, Wild Imaginings is pushing theatrical boundaries with Shanidar, its latest production, running from Thursday through Sunday at Mission Waco’s Jubilee Theatre.
It’s the story of a found family of women seeking to survive in a post-apocalyptic landscape. In a (seemingly) uninhabited world, they love, fight, and try to find beauty in the darkness. Whether you relate to Gin, the group’s blind matriarch, eternal optimist Ellen, or Alex, the sarcastic young woman who never had the chance to be an archaeologist, there is a character for everyone in Shanidar.
Books and beer—two great things that go great together, right? If you feel the same way, join the Waco–McLennan County Library’s traveling book club next Tuesday night at Slow Rise on the Brazos to discuss Jonas Jonasson’s The Prophet and the Idiot. Set in Sweden in late summer of 2011, self-taught astrophysicist Petra has calculated that the atmosphere will collapse on the 21st of September of that year. But things rarely go to plan—even at the end of the world.
New members are always welcome, and no purchase is required to join the fun!
