25th Annual Black Glasses Film Festival, Heart of Texas Comic Con, and 5th Annual Pinewood Block Party with The Texas Gentlemen & Kelley Mickwee
The Black Glasses Film Festival isn’t worried about polish—it’s a cinematic riot built from raw student nerve and hungry ambition you can’t fake. This year’s lineup hits the screen at the Waco Hippodrome Theatre on Friday night with shorts that swerve from one genre to another, stitched together by kids who haven’t learned to be boring yet.
We promise: You’ll walk out rattled, grinning, maybe a little scorched—and wondering how they managed to pull it off.
The Heart of Texas Comic Con is a hyperspace rift in the middle of Waco where reality splits, capes fly, and the merch tables vibrate with caffeinated nostalgia. You’ll see a wrestler in face paint next to an anime voice actor next to a guy selling vintage Predator figures, and somehow it all makes sense.
This isn’t fandom—it’s fever, and it’s back on Saturday and Sunday at BASE at Extraco Events Center with enough weird energy to short-circuit a lightsaber.
The fifth annual Pinewood Block Party doesn’t give a hoot about slick production or curated cool—its spirit will move and sway through the crowd until you feel the bass in your ribs and the sweat from someone else’s cold beer.
Sure, the eight bands—ranging from The Texas Gentlemen to Kelley Mickwee to Phil Hollie and more—are the reason to show up, but it’s the whole scene that’ll keep you going once the sun dips and the lights come on. Saturday at Pinewood isn’t just a gig—it’s a backyard barnburner under the Texas sky.
