Grease: The Musical, Monday Funday with Lucas Jon Turner, and Silent Book Club
Silent House Theatre Company’s production of Grease this weekend (and next) at The Performing Arts Community Center isn’t some saccharine, plastic-wrapped musical built for cruise ship audiences—it’s the real thing, stripped of its polish and pulsing with raw teenage energy.
They peel back the bubblegum gloss to reveal the desperation, rebellion, and reckless heart that made rock ‘n’ roll a revolution in the first place. You don’t watch a show like this; you feel it, like the hum of an engine ready to tear loose, like the spark of a summer night that could change everything.
The return of live music to Hemingway’s Watering Hole for Monday Funday with Lucas Jon Turner is a sure sign that spring is on its way. He plays with the kind of raw, rhythmic energy that pulls you in and doesn’t let go, blending rock, blues, and reggae into a sound built for late nights with good friends.
Even better, Hemingway’s keeps the weekend spirit alive with its easygoing atmosphere and cocktails that don’t play around. Add in Teresita’s Birria slinging their legendary tacos, and you’ve got the perfect mix of music, flavor, and good times to start the week right.
Book clubs can too often feel like homework for grown-ups, forcing you through novels that drain the joy out of reading, but Silent Book Club next Tuesday night at the Waco-McLennan County Central Library lets you ditch the assigned reading and do things your way.
Bring whatever book speaks to your soul, or take a blind chance on a wrapped mystery—you might even walk away with a new favorite and a story you never expected. No forced discussions, no literary peer pressure, just you, your book, and maybe a new friend waiting between the pages.
