Harambee, a Swahili term that means “let’s pull together,” is a Kenyan tradition of community self-help events, fundraising, philanthropy, fun educational activities, community outreach, and networking. Waco’s Harambee Revive brings this cultural tradition to Bridge Street Plaza on Friday from 5 pm to 9 pm and Saturday from 3 pm to 9 pm.
Enjoy creative, literary, and performing arts, exhibits, shopping, food, a kid zone, and social bonding with activities for the whole family.
Oktoberfest kicks off this weekend, which makes it one of the most wonderful times of the year for beer lovers. The Dancing Bear is celebrating on Saturday with “Oktobearfest” and your $25 admission gets you a branded mug and three beer tickets. Plus, Taste of Chicago will be on-site serving food.
(Bare Arms Brewing is also getting in on the action by releasing its own Oktoberfest beer on Saturday as well as debuting a new German-inspired menu.)
Prost!
Mission Waco’s annual Walk for the Homeless is this Sunday morning and gives you the chance to visit with different organizations that serve those experiencing homelessness. Learn about the resources Waco has to offer and how you can get involved. This two-mile walking event starts at Mission Waco’s Meyer Center at 1226 Washington Avenue and concludes at Church Under the Bridge. Transportation will be provided at the end of the walk back to the Meyer Center.
(Want to contribute right now? Donate online to help provide a brand-new pair of shoes to someone in need. Each pair costs $50, and participants are taken to Academy Sports + Outdoors, where they choose their own pair of shoes.)
